Diaries, 1804-1814 [microform]

These diaries, kept from 1804 to 1814, include daily entries of two or more lines concerning the weather, town meetings, local elections and celebrations, a few accounts, Elihu's frequent trips to Boston, and a few contemporary events such as the 1812 vote for war with England, of which Hoyt disapproved. At the end of each diary is a brief summary in which Hoyt mentions his old age, good health, and readiness to die. The 1814 diary was completed by another hand (Elihu's?) because of Hoyt's failing health; entries in this diary concern his illness and death, and mention the burning of Washington by the British.
